The Renewable Energy Data and Information Service (REDIS) is developed, hosted, and operated by the Department of Energy with the purpose of improving the availability and access to renewable energy data and information. The REDIS initiative is supported by the Danish - South African Renewable Energy Programme.

For example, in this first batch of data, you will find average load factors for IPP projects by energy technology and province, providing evidence that in 2015,
- the average load factor for photovoltaics (PV) was higher in Northern Cape at just above 26% than in Western Cape at just below 23%,- the average load factor for wind power in Eastern Cape was just below 33% in 2015.
